Jackson Asphalt is proud to announce the successful completion of a large-scale asphalt rehabilitation project at Lumen Christi College, located at 81 Station Street, Martin, in Perth’s south-eastern suburbs.
The project involved the full resurfacing of the school’s carpark across multiple stages, along with kerbing replacement and structural remediation work — delivering a safer, more functional and longer-lasting surface for staff, students and visitors.
A Multi-Stage Asphalt Resurfacing Project in Perth
The project was delivered across three distinct stages, each addressing specific areas of the carpark with precision and care.
Stage 1 covered the largest portion of the works, with the existing asphalt profiled to a depth of 30mm and replaced with fresh Black Granite asphalt. The new asphalt was supplied and machine-laid using a Vogele 1300/3 paver — industry-standard equipment for achieving smooth, consistent results across large commercial surfaces in Perth.
Stage 2a involved the same profiling and resurfacing process applied to an additional section of the carpark, requiring an additional 100 tonnes of asphalt. Given the location within an active school environment, a full traffic management plan was developed and approved through the City of Gosnells, with traffic controllers and light traffic management vehicles deployed to keep the site safe throughout works.
Stage 2b addressed a sunken section of the carpark that was causing poor water drainage. Existing brick pavers were carefully removed and stockpiled for the client to relay, old asphalt was cut out and removed, and the area was rebuilt using recycled road base concrete blend. The base was spread, compacted, trimmed and water-bound before 5 tonnes of asphalt was hand-laid using a bobcat drag screed — a precise method well-suited to smaller, irregular areas requiring level correction.
Kerbing Replacement Across Both Stages
Alongside the asphalt works, Jackson Asphalt completed the removal and replacement of semi-mountable concrete kerbing across both stages. Old kerbing was removed and transported off-site, with new kerbing laid to the Stage 1 and Stage 2 areas. All kerbing works were completed in a single mobilisation, minimising disruption to the school.
Professional Preparation and Profiling
Thorough preparation is the foundation of any long-lasting asphalt surface in Perth’s climate, and this project was no exception. Both Stage 1 and Stage 2a required the mobilisation of a 2m profiling machine, a Pocket Rocket 500mm drum profiler with skid steer sweeper, and semi-tipper trucks to remove profiling spoil efficiently. A mechanical sweeper was used to clean prepared surfaces, with all spoil removed from site.
